It is said that the monarch is a symbol of hope and that the butterfly represents the soul as it changes and transforms. I chose to create this piece for a friend who, at her father's funeral, saw a butterfly flying over his grave as they lowered the casket.
Last summer I created a couple of wire-wrapped butterflies, but this one was reworked to form a more elegant and refined piece. The silhouette is different with a stronger upward angle to the top wings. The armatures fit together as a trio instead of a quad, so it is also more structurally sound.
The tissue wings were hand painted, dusted with copper and gold macro pigments, and sealed. Onyx and citrine accent the pendant and chain.
